Choosing the right construction company is one of the most important decisions before starting any building, fit-out, renovation, or maintenance project.

Price alone should not determine your decision. A cheaper quotation may sometimes lead to higher costs later due to delays, poor workmanship, unclear scope, or additional charges.

Before signing a contract or making any payment, consider these seven important steps:

1. Verify the Company’s Information

Before you sign, make sure the company’s information is clear and that its business activity matches the type of work you want to carry out.

Working with a company that has clear and verifiable information gives you a better starting point when evaluating your options.

2. Check Previous Customer Experiences

Do not rely only on the photos, advertisements, or social media posts published by the company.

Look for reviews and experiences from customers who have actually worked with the company.

Pay attention to recurring comments about:

* Meeting deadlines

* Quality of workmanship

* Customer service

* Problem solving

* After-sales support

Through RateQ, you can explore companies and review customer ratings and experiences before making your decision.

3. Ask for Similar Previous Projects

Not every contractor is suitable for every type of project.

If you are building a villa, look for a company with experience in villa construction.

If your project involves fit-out, kitchens, maintenance, or other specialist work, ask to see similar projects the company has completed.

For larger projects, it may also be useful to request a visit to a completed or ongoing project.

4. Do Not Compare the Final Price Only

If you receive several quotations, do not automatically choose the cheapest one.

Compare:

* Materials

* Quantities

* Product quality

* Project duration

* Included works

* Excluded works

* Warranties, if applicable

A detailed quotation makes it easier to compare companies fairly and can reduce disagreements during the project.

5. Make Sure Everything Is Clearly Written

Do not rely only on verbal agreements.

The contract should clearly explain:

* Scope of work

* Total project value

* Payment schedule

* Project duration

* Materials and specifications

* Responsibilities of each party

* Additional works and variation charges

* Handover process

Any unclear point before signing may become a disagreement later.

6. Link Payments to Project Progress

Avoid paying a large percentage of the project value in advance without a clear reason.

Whenever possible, payments should be linked to agreed stages of completion.

For example, payments can be made after specific milestones have been completed and verified according to the contract.

This can give you better control over the progress of your project.

7. Do Not Rely on One Review

One positive review does not automatically mean a company is excellent, and one complaint does not necessarily mean it is a bad company.

Look at the overall pattern.

Are the same issues mentioned repeatedly?

Are customers satisfied with the quality of work?

Does the company respond to complaints?

Does it try to resolve problems?

The more genuine experiences you review, the clearer your understanding of the company will become.

Before You Sign
